BMW 325ix Turbo
- Let’s get acquainted with a really tough vehicle which born for Drag Racing. Please tell us some words about
it.
- This is an all-wheel drive BMW E30 325ix, so it is good at starting. That’s why it’s made.
- Why the all wheel drive is so interesting?
- There are sper-diferentials at the front and at the rear for splitting the drive into the front and the rear running gear by 60-40 %
- Let’s see the deviations from the casual BMWs!
- The running gear, the drive and the gearbox are fully original. A sinter clutch was buit in, lest it slips due to the high torque. The engine was redesigned from 2500ccm3 to 2700ccm3, There is a sintered con-rod for decreasing the compression. We also built a T3/T4 Turbo Charges in it. The gas-pressure controller is separately adjustable for setting up the car. A really good intercooler on it. The engine is completely redesigned by using Diesel Crankshaft and con-rod. The forged piston was ordered from Germany to resist the turbo pressure.The gas pressure is separately variable by the gas-pressure controller. Blow-off valve and direct air filter are also included.
- We also replaced the original exhaust system by an 80” acid-proof steel exhaust without choke.
- We have not mentioned the running gear, yet.
- There are sper-diferentials at the front and at the rear for splitting the drive into the front and the rear running gear by 60-40 %. So, wheels start to roll together. The all wheel drive, the short-way transmission and differentials all together make this car good at race-starting. Of course its final speed is not so high but its acceleration is really good.
- Koni adjustable shock absorbers substitute the original ones. The cooler is not an exception. Now we have a
larger BMW cooler because the engine heated with the original one.
- This is general with this load, isn’t it?
- Yes it is. It’s important because this car is in traffic use. It must not overheat in summer.
- What kind of car did you defeat with this BMW?
- Chevrolet Corvett which has reputely 650HP. Mitsubishi Evo 8 wich has 350HP. I defeated them at a Drag Race.
- The turbo system required some extra measuring instruments such as oil-pressure gage, extra water thermo meter and turbo-pressure controller. Furthermore there is an extra gas-pressure gage which is absolutely necessary for setting the car. The viscous cooling was replaced by a direct-switchable electric fan for giving a better cooling system. Racing seats are in the car instead of the original ones not only for the better set-up, but also it means 20-30 kg weight decrease which is important as well.
- What kind of achievements does this car have?
- It makes good at races. It won first place in Debrecen and several times in Matészalka. It got 2nd place in its category in Budapest. It did well at all races where we were. Honestly the performance of the engine is not on top. Owing to the traffic usage and the durability the vehicle runs only with 1 bar which is really reliable. I have not got any problem, yet.
- So, we can tell it can be used in traffic as a common car.
- Sure, you can. It consumes a little bit more but you can drive it as normal car.
- How much is its consumption? Just approximately.
